All living things are made of cells. Some, like bacteria, are a single cell; the human body has about 30 trillion. Plant and animal cells share many parts. The nucleus holds DNA, the instructions for building and running the cell. Mitochondria release energy from food, and the cell membrane controls what goes in and out. Plant cells also have a rigid cell wall and chloroplasts, which capture sunlight to make sugar through photosynthesis.
