A hurricane is a huge storm that forms over warm ocean water. Its winds spin around a calm center called the eye. A storm becomes a hurricane when its winds reach 74 miles per hour. Hurricanes bring heavy rain, strong winds and high water called storm surge. Scientists track them with satellites, so people who live near the coast have time to get ready or leave.
