Many employers ask applicants to take a typing test, especially for office, customer service and data entry jobs. A common test lasts one to five minutes and reports both speed and accuracy. Some jobs set a minimum, such as 40 words per minute with 95% accuracy. Before a test, warm up with a short passage, sit up straight and rest your fingers on the home row. During the test, keep a steady pace instead of rushing. If you make a mistake, correct it calmly and move on.
